Online Translation Vs Human Translators

Sometime back I was looking for what the statement in German would mean in English. Normally I turn to my daughter who is pursuing German and Korean recently for any of the translations required for my work and writings. At this age she is  conversant with almost 7 languages. So she is live thesaurus for me.  However, I see many of my colleagues and friends tend to go to free web sites for their quick translation of sentences. If you’ve ever taken a foreign language course, teachers and professors always remind students not to use online Translation as a tool for completing assignments. Still, many students go ahead and put their English essays into the online translation websites in order to get their nicely translated Spanish or italian essay out to impress the teachers and examiners. Students or professionals forget that in most cases it's most evident that student or professional has used an online translator like Google Translate or some other sites for the transla...

OUR UNFORGETTABLE GENERATION.

I belong to a generation when we walked to school & back. Playing hide & seek with friends after dusk. For us Playing carrom  & chess used to be luxury games, making boats and making them float in the rain water accumulated in ditches besides road.  Enjoying missal with masala misal with peanuts  at 50 paise is like big treat from mutyan misal gadi parked outside our school before we enter ground, cycling on the streets, on rent at 25 paise per half  hour and that too if you are taking giddi cycle he used to charge 50 paise per half hour. What a feeling on those drives.. Mind blowing...  We watched hindi movie on DD on every Sunday evening. Just used to pray to get some good movies but alas many times the films were not so good but still we see till "The End". Also, we never thought for a second going in really odd time especially like Benson and hedges series which cricket matches used to start at 4.30 am. I still remember seeing matches along with ...

Commander Abhilash Tomy

Image
It gives me a great pride in remembering that 15th Day of Jan 2017, when I met this great person in Lavasa.I was there on a official workshop where Abhilash sir was invited as chief guest. I was completely unaware of this personality before I heard him giving the speech and telling about circum navigation of the world ( earth ).   Commander Abhilash Tomy is an s an Indian naval officer and yachtsman. In 2013, he became the first Indian to complete a solo, un assisted, non-stop circumnavigation of the globe on INSV Mhadei. He also competed in the 2018 Golden Globe Race. What a phenomenal achievements when you are just 40s and still going for greater heights. I just don’t have enough words to express my feelings. He is not a ordinary soldier, he is champion sailor, decorated Naval officer and he is a ultimate survivor. To me Abhilash Tomy is no less than a miracle. That miracle would not have been possible with his unimaginable courage, perseverance and never say Die Spirit. You ...

Tuppa Anna tavvi uppinakai (lemon pickle) / Varan Bhaat Toop Loncha (lemon pickle)

Image
Tuppa Anna tavvi uppinakai (lemon pickle) / Varan Bhaat Toop Loncha (lemon pickle) Send a North Kannadiga or Maharashtrian on a culinary holiday around the world. Let both of them indulge in Italian Pasta or Pizza in Rome, world-class Japanese sushi, a quintessential American cheeseburger topped off with a Michelin star meal, Delhi’s butter chicken or   Kolkata’s macher jhol. They will invariably come back home and demand some hot Tuppa Anna Tavvi Uppinakai   / varan bhaat toop Loncha limbu (dal, rice, homemade ghee, pickle and lemon) or even curd rice with mango pickle. They will then pat their tummy, heave a sigh of relief, and say “Atta kuthe jevlya sarkha watala / Eega oota madidnga aat nodpa (Now that’s what I call a meal).” In North Karnataka (Bijapur, Belgaum,Dharwad districts) and Maharashtrian Karnataka households, the humble Tavvi Anna Tuppa   / varan bhaat toop   is as versatile and ubiquitous as Naomi Campbell on oxygen channel or Radhika Apte’s...

Nuggikeri Hanamappa

This is a small write up on Famous Dharwad Nuggikeri Hanuman temple. ,  Dharwar or Dharwad (as called in Kannada), is a prominent and famous city in Karnataka. Dharwad is located on the main highway between Bangalore and Pune. Dharwad is famous for Karnataka University, a prominent university of the region and is well-known for its Mishra Pedha. It is a education hub and the city is popular with students and pensioners. Geographically Dharwad is situated on the edge of Western Ghats and hence is a hilly town. The word "Dharwad" means a place of rest in a long travel or a small habitation. For centuries, Dharwad acted as a gateway between the Malenaadu (western mountains) and the Bayalu seeme (plains) and it became a resting place for travellers. The name is derived from the Sanskrit word 'dwarawata', 'dwara' meaning "door" and 'wata' or 'wada'meaning "town". Dharwad is also known for its lakes, but today handful o...

Sumeet Mixer Grinder Story

Image
I am going to put forward yet another Childhood memory of mine which is still very fresh in my mind and this memory leads me to write an article which attempts to narrate how one of the India's best Mixer Grinder brand born and took the stride to become essential part of Indian Kitchen since more than 5 decades. We used to visit Pandharpur a famous pilgrimage place in southern Maharashtra where my cousins stay. My aunt has prepared Dosa and green chutney for breakfast to all the guests. My granny asked my aunt how you managed all this grinding the Dosa batter and preparing coconut chutney in so large quantity which was enough to all and that too so early in the morning. My aunt showed "Sumeet" mixer and said its because of this can do all these things so fast as this appliance is very efficient. Otherwise normal household ladies used to make this manually in grinding stone. That was the first sight of this great appliance that I had. Later, I realised it’s really an eff...

83rd Anniversary

Image
Today is 83rd Anniversary of the Mumbai's Iconic Double Decker. Its really proud to say it completes 83years of her Service. Wow..... I still remember those wonderful days of 1989- 92....where my presence in mumbai along with brothers and sisters living in northern suburbs....these Double Deckers are all time favourite of each and every person living in Mumbai including me. It was amazing to travel in these double deckers whenever opportunity comes. I love those double deckers on SV road betwenn Andheri to Borivli....What were those days...no words to express. Currently double decker buses are left with a dwindling number of 120 with BEST, Whenever boarding a Double Decker, my first aim is to rush through the stairs and grab that first seat on the upper deck. Sitting exactly above the driver, enjoying the cool breeze entering through the front window. Travelling in a Double Decker is always a memorable experience. I have not forgotten that Double Decker Bus journey on #138 which d...

Its different

Image
This year, its Festivals & New Years eve is different I still remember these fag end days of 2019...where we were all gearing for welcoming new year 2020....truly this year has two zeros in it but no one have ever wondered it will make entire world's life to be zero... Anyways... Looking at this entire year... It was full of tension, pain, fear that is consistently hammering us, some have suffered and some are still suffering. All are taking steps to come out of this and come back to normal life... While we do this we have these getting to celebrate festivals one after the other right from Gouri ganeshotsav, navratri, Dushehra, Diwali and now its Christmas and finally New Year eve..... Its totally different this time.... During these festivals is not about having a grand vacation at an exotic location or any other location on this earth or having my house is sparkling clean and decked up for these festivals for guests to come, it is not about whether I have prepared a variet...

Panchgani trip 28Nov2020

Image
Get Together with Friends at Panchgani Those last two days of Nivemember 2020 were so amazing that I cant even dream about any trip with families can be so much fun. Ultimate enjoyment of 48 hours. I think this is first time in this 20 years history of IT work profile that you planned a weekend and you were not disturbed with unreasonable office calls. Time well spent, with tripple enjoyment with almost negligible expense of Rs. 1750 per person per day including food stay outing and recreation. I can bet there cannot be any better deal than this.  The most fascinating and wonderful part is all 11 children with varied age groups bonded so well.. that they have decided to extend the fun even after the trip at one friends house... So thats its tripple enjoyment.  Looking forward for many more trips like this in the coming future.  As you can see the pic above it looks as if i am riding a horse statue positioned in that jumping pose.... this trip also gives the sa...

Kande Pohe

Kande pohe - In Maharashtrian families, the formal meeting of the boy and girl for marriage engagement  is referred to as Kande-pohe or Chaha-pohe. ...kande pohe with topping of grated coconut , chopped coriander and a slice of lemon. As the name sounds it is  a traditional Maharastrian recipe of rice flakes ,mostly eaten for breakfast in Marathi homes . This is the dish you will expect to be made when you are a guest at any Marathi home and no matter what time of the day it is we offer this usually with tea to our guest . The most amazing aspect about this dish is that it is being made  from years till today and despite the advent of many other dishes is still the key dish in traditional Marathi families. Even Kellogg’s could not replace it 😊
